Stoke City captain suffers injury in preseason friendly
28th July 2019
Stoke City’s friendly against Leicester took a turn for the worse on Saturday as captain of Stoke City, Ryan Shawcross, was carried off the pitch in a stretcher with fears of a broken ankle after a horrific incident.
Ryan was injured in the first half as he made a sliding clearance and his foot appeared to get caught in the turf. Teammates signalled to the bench for the medics to come over and the medical team treated Ryan on the pitch for several minutes before carrying him off.
Concerned Stoke City manager, Nathan Jones, has reported luckily the injury is not as bad as first thought, but no date has been announced for the team captain’s return as of yet.
Ryan (31) is now recovering at home after undergoing surgery, hopefully with a more positive outlook than he went in with.
